Established in the Netherlands in 2004, Our Client operates from its headquarters in Amsterdam and from offices in Washington, Singapore, Mexico City and Moscow. At present, her flat organization consists of an international team comprised of 55 professionals, who create an informal working environment which empowers our ambition, responsibility, creativity, individual strengths and fun. Due to the success our client is now looking to strengthen our network operation center (NOC) with an enthusiastic Network Engineer.
Job profile
As a Network Engineer you will be a member of the international oriented team in the NOC, which is part of the Operations department. This department is responsible for network facilities as well as all internal systems (DNS, email, application servers, Active Directory, Xen hosts, Trixbox).
You will be responsible for monitoring, troubleshooting and technical provisioning of the clients Network.
This network elements contain all routers, switches, servers, firewalls and other supporting equipment on hardware, software and configuration level.
The network has different modules from backbone routers in the PoPs using mpls/bgp to customer sites via mobile/ipsec to office environment with firewalls and switches. Furthermore our client is expanding it’s product portfolio with Carrier Grade Ethernet services.
Your primary tasks and responsibilities will be to:
• Monitor all network elements (customer connections as well as our PoP’s);
• Act and solve all network related incidents;
• Troubleshoot customer related incidents for the Ethernet based products, 3G mobile and VPN products.
• Perform technical provisioning for all products that are not standardized yet for the CSC team.
• Perform planned and proactive actions in order to keep the network and the application servers running at the highest possible availability.
• Build up the new Ethernet services product you will be involved in implementing as well as operational
• Be the last technical point of escalation for the (CSC) support engineers in order to resolve technical issues involving clients’ network connections by analyzing the incident and pro-actively coordinating the repair process with providers;
• Train and coach (CSC) support engineers in specific technical area’s (depends on technical expertise of the network engineer)
• Administrate the process of technical support accurately and share findings with colleagues;
• Participate in project teams as necessary to support the business.
• Very broad and diverse function, we have not reach the scale where this function is closed within borders. The team is small with 5 persons and you will work with all the above mentioned elements.
Your Profile
• Completed relevant education (ICT, Electronics, Telecommunications)
• CCNA and CCNP certified.
• Minimal of 3 year relevant work experience within a NOC environment.
• Excellent knowledge of:
o Ethernet based products, vlan tagging, QinQ, etc
o Access networking technologies
Routers, switches / firewalls (primarily Cisco)
VPN solutions (public based on IPSEC/SSL or private based on
MPLS)
Network management systems / tools
• Good knowledge of Windows Server, Linux Server, Trixbox, Exchange, IIS, Apache as we also manage all services and systems in house
• English proficiency; Dutch, Spanish, French, German or other language is beneficial
• Analytical & Precise with eye for detail still keeping an overview
• Communication strong both verbal and written. Often you will have to work ‘blindfolded’ and via phone guide an engineer on location to connect up or reconfigure a device.
• Creative & customer focused
• Small team in a new company working in an international environment
• Proven skills in coaching and training technical staff.
• Team player & no 9-to-5 mentality and ability to work under pressure.
• Possible works on odd hours and during weekends for incidents, repairs and new installations
• Possible on-call shifts or rotational shifts in the future as the network grows
