C++ Software Engineer

For one of our clients based in Amsterdam, we are currently searching for a Senior
Software Engineer with initial focus on embedded application development.
Key responsibilities:
• Work as part of a team or individually, to meet defined development targets,
• Promote and consider quality, innovation, productiveness, and efficiency in all areas of work,
• Produce high quality, efficient and maintainable code, on time, whilst meeting the agreed requirements,
• With experience, increase influence and involvement in matters of architecture, design and implementation of software,
• Act as a consultant for other developers,
• Enforce the current software development practices, processes and standards, including where needed, performing code reviews, design reviews, teaching, mentoring or giving technical talks and writing documentation,
• Take architectural responsibility, assisting in the overall design of internal and external systems,
• Propose technical solutions and develop ideas without waiting for, or requiring intervention from others,
• Effectively plan own work and coordinate with others,
• Work with others to deliver and advise on innovative solutions to technical issues,
• Analyzes high level requirements, translates these to detailed specifications and get them approved,
• Create designs based on requirements. When requirements aren“t available, propose design solutions,
• Integrate software components and functionality into a coherent system,
• Write unit test code, structures, and scripts and supports the testers with
identifying and solving test issues,
• Write, publish and archive technical documentation to accompany developed software,
• Identify, investigate and resolve issues and performs scheduled maintenance or improvement activities,
• Increase technical knowledge and skills in own field of expertise and shares knowledge with colleagues within and outside the own team,
• Develop and contribute to long term goals and strategies of the department.
Qualifications
• Minimum 5 years experience of software development and engineering within a commercial environment (preferably >8 years),
• Extensive knowledge of C++ and OO practices, with at least 5 years proven experience,
• Knowledgeable about Operating System concepts and cross platform development,
• Is quick in overseeing (potential) problems and proposing solutions for it,
• Takes initiative when seeing problems arise which have not taken up yet or when seeing opportunities to improve code, architecture, processes, tools, etc,
• Likes solving diverse problems (cross departmental, hardware, software, networking) over solely designing software,
• Able to create or propose appropriate (automated) tooling based on discovered needs,
• Must have good communication skills, and a solid grasp of English,
• Ability to handle multiple tasks and working in a lively environment,
• Is driven, creative, and able to work both autonomously and in a team,
• Ability to quickly oversee structure in large code bases,
• Degree or equivalent qualification,
• Experience with any of the following is a definite benefit:
o Java
o Audio (text to speech, speech recognition, audio (de-)coding ),
o OS/platform development, hardware/software bring-up,
o Javascript / Webkit
o Graphical/UI development,
o Integration and branching strategies,
o GSM/GPRS/EDGE/3G networks, IP & communications over mobile networks, developing mobile phone software/firmware, ETSI standard AT command set.
Duration: 3 months (option to extend).
